When you work long hours on your feet in a hot and sweltering kitchen serving other people, you usually want to come home and kick your feet up. Unfortunately for Chef Murray, he’d been unable to do that for the past four months thanks to his brother Tristram crashing on his living room couch. So Tristram, together with Murray’s wife Tamarah, conspired with Reno Set Go! team Cheryl Torreneuva and Roger Morin to transform Murray’s master bedroom into a relaxing space fit for a king. Here’s how they completed the stunning redesign in less than 36 hours and gave this homeowner a chic hotel-inspired space of his own.
A Brand New Space
Cheryl and Roger completely transformed this room from top to bottom with a fresh coat of paint, some new wall trim to add depth and texture, and a few key pieces of furniture that were selected with love and care. The result is a modern and romantic master bedroom retreat that’s meant for relaxing adult time away from the rest of the family.
Artistic Touches
The framing on the walls really helps add design definition to the overall look, while small pieces of art showcase the homeowners’ personalities and tastes. To help give the space even more design appeal Cheryl selected an array of art, from the intricately detailed mirror and the monochromatic prints to the 3D animal bust and hand moulds on the opposing wall.
A Simple Headboard
Part of this room’s redesign was moving the bed towards the window so that there would be a more open flow. That meant crafting a new headboard-one that Tamarah and Cheryl created as a little DIY project. The result is a simple statement that adds definition without taking away from the natural light spilling in from the window above.
Some Bonus Flair
To showcase this couple’s fun side and to give an instant modern update to the space, Cheryl had these funky animal print drapes installed. The black-and-white pattern plays perfectly off the room’s pinks and monochromatic finishes, adding a fun flair to the room.
A Touch of Leather
This custom leather bench with the detailed buttons was assembled with lots of TLC. Tamarah chose leather because she felt it would give a luxurious but masculine touch to the space; she and Cheryl then selected lighter, more muted pinks in order to soften up the look.
Attention to Detail
Small touches, such as this area rug in a softer floral pattern, give the room that romantic appeal and soften up the overall look. This particular piece pulls double duty as it also works to tie some of the room’s other elements together and lends a cozy vibe to the finished product.
Bonus Storage
These filing cabinet-inspired night tables add a decent amount of storage to the room and extra surface areas for each homeowner to place their things. The gold touches add another modern but feminine element, helping to tie in some of the other features throughout the room.
Modern Lamps
These table lamps add more lighting options without bulking up the space. The clear glass bases allow for a more streamlined look, while the soft shades add another feminine touch. Meanwhile Cheryl switched things up with interesting textiles, pairing fluffy pillows with more masculine designs, giving the eye plenty to take in.
Be Still, My Heart
This funky florescent heart isn’t necessarily the first thing you think of when it comes to a bedroom, but with this colour scheme and the modern design it definitely works. Hearts add a natural romantic touch to any room, but this particular fixture makes the space feel like a chic boutique hotel.
Cozy Details
Meanwhile, other details like this woven serving tray loaded with fresh flowers, a book and a romantic candle showcase the potential of this room. Now this is the kind of oasis you’d want to come home to after a really long day.
New Fixtures
Even the overhead light fixture benefitted from a fun little upgrade; this new design is funky and modern thanks to its varied shapes, while the bulbs add lots of lighting.
A New Powder Room
Fresh wallpaper, a new mat and updated textiles transform this master powder room into an extension of the overall black-and-pink design. Fresh flowers and cozy details like the basket in the corner for towels complete the look.
A Functional Space
Thankfully Murray now has a working sink in this space, something he was sorely missing before. A modern mirror and some new lights adorn it, making this the perfect secret master bedroom overhaul.
