Jonathan Scott has received plenty of unique requests from homeowners on Property Brothers over the years, but this may have been the first time a couple asked him to create an equestrian style interior with modern flair. And as we’ve seen time and time again on the show, ask and you shall receive. Here’s an inside look at how the host managed to create a beautiful, barn-inspired space without even horsing around… well, too much, anyhow.
Warm Entrance
Refreshing a tiny entryway wasn’t a problem for Jonathan. To create the feeling of a separate space, he kept the small divider wall and added a standalone unit that’s perfect for concealing shoes or resting weary feet. A few fashionable cushions, fresh flowers and equestrian-inspired hooks complete the look.
Elegant Finishes
In keeping with the country-chic theme, Jonathan outfitted the living room in dark leathers and textured fabrics. The open-concept space is further defined with rich textiles and nature-inspired accessories.
Organized Living
No family room is complete without a flat-screen. Jonathan made sure this one fit seamlessly into the room’s design by mounting it onto the wall to conceal unsightly wires. The shelving units underneath add bonus storage and style thanks to pretty woven baskets.
Statement Fireplace
The homeowners were insistent on having a wood-burning fireplace, and Jonathan delivered with this gorgeous piece. The breathtaking floor-to-ceiling stone finish acts as a feature wall, adding warmth and old-school charm to the space.
Natural Finish
A natural wood mantel enhances the fireplace’s beautiful stonework, accentuating some of the warmer shades. A few decorative knickknacks and framed photographs personalize the look.
Crafty Bench
Tucked into a corner of the living area sits a small seating nook fitted with drawers and flanked by custom shelving. A circular wall mirror, midnight-blue throws and vintage accents complete the elegant aesthetic.
Bonus Touches
This dapper ottoman functions as a coffee table, but it can still be used as extra seating for guests. A simple serving tray displaying quirky objects helps define its use while adding more personality to the room.
Earthy Hues
To add that chic, stable feel, Jonathan opted for earthy colours like deep yellow, black and grey. Details like the side table’s branch-inspired legs go a long way in adding character.
Large Kitchen
Jonathan went a little more modern in the heart of the home. The large kitchen island is definitely the room’s showpiece thanks to its dark blue hue and panelled finish.
Stable Finishes
Between the rustic stools and industrial-style pendant lights, the kitchen subtly exudes a chic country vibe. But coupled with glossy white and gold finishes, it’s also modern and glam in all the right ways.
Basin Sink
We love the look and feel of this oversized sink, which still doesn’t take up too much real estate. The faucet’s shimmery gold finish only adds to the look, especially when surrounded by potted plants and colourful fruit displays.
Modern Appliances
A gorgeous new range top and other modern appliances are a must-have in any modern kitchen, and this space is all the evidence we need. The glistening marble backsplash adds a healthy dose of pattern and texture.
White Finishes
Sleek white cabinets along with the glossy marble countertops and backsplash help to recycle the room’s natural light.
A Touch of Gold
An easy way to switch up a look in any kitchen is by swapping out the cabinetry hardware. The gold-hued bar pulls Jonathan selected here echo the other brass accents in the room.
Family Dining
To save on space, Jonathan created a sophisticated seating area in the dining room, complete with a plush banquette and a charming family photo wall. We love the way he incorporated mirrors into the design too, which reflect light and help open up the space.
Rustic Accents
The wooden dining table and chairs are absolutely rustic, but they feel modern when coupled with the grey bench fabric and elegant table setting. The nearby hutch along with the decorative plates on the wall add to that country vibe, too.
Bar Cart
Even awkward corners can make a style statement, as evidenced by this fanciful old-world bar cart. The striking piece suits the home’s equestrian feel and adds function without taking up too much space.
Elegant Finishes
Last but not least, no statement room is complete without a show-stopping light fixture. This crystal chandelier adds instant glam to the eating nook. Its elegant touches like these that prove equestrian style can be classic, contemporary and undeniably chic.
